Redaelli’s Pack 1 wire ropes

Redaelli Tecna Ropes & Lifting (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is going to provide mooring lines for semi-submersible drilling unit – D90. This is the world’s largest ultra deepwater rig. The builder is Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Ltd.

As a long term supplier for CIMC Raffles, Redaelli (Shanghai) will supply 8 temporary mooring lines for D90 drilling rig. With the construction and core type of 6xK36WS-IWRC, each of the Pack 1 wire ropes’ length reaches 600m and the diameter is 83mm.

Good wear and fatigue resistance, long life, high breaking force, good stability, and good handling simplicity – these are the main characteristics of Redaelli’s Pack 1 wire ropes. Designed with outer compacted strands, Pack 1 ropes are recommended for heavy applications such as hoisting, offshore winches, risers tensioning, anchoring etc.

Redaelli congratulates on the successfully installation of Frigstad D90™

Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Ltd successfully completed the installation of the upper hull & topsides to the lower hull of the Frigstad Deepwater Rig Alfa in June this year, which is the first of two Ultra Deepwater semi-submersible drilling units which were ordered by Frigstad Deepwater Ltd.

The rig of the Frigstad D90 design, developed by Frigstad Engineering, has reached the maximum operating water depth of 3,658m and drilling depth capacity of 15,240m. The rig will be among the largest, most powerful and efficient ultra deepwater drilling rigs ever built. The final design and building implementation is conducted by CIMC Raffles.

At close to 19,000 metric tonnes, the lifting operation carried out by the Taisun crane is one of the heaviest lifts ever undertaken by a conventional crane and it is another demonstration of Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshores capabilities and its development towards becoming a leading builder of state of the art offshore drilling rigs.

Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore displayed the model of Frigstad D90™ at China’s equipment and manufacturing industry exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 20th. The model caught the eyes of China Premier Li Ke-Qiang, he appreciates the efforts the companies put in building this ultra deepwater drilling rig.
