Over 100 senior oil and gas officials from around the world have toured the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition Center and Convention Center as part of the preparations of LNG2019, the flagship event for the world’s global LNG industry.

The LNG2019 Exhibitor Briefing, held on Thursday 15 November, brought together senior executives from international oil companies including Chevron, ExxonMobil, Anadarko and Tellurian with local exhibitors, including CNOOC, CNPC, China Gas, Towngas, Jiangnan Shipping Yard and Shenergy. Attendees were given an update on preparations for the conference and exhibition, which takes place in Shanghai on 1-5 April 2019, the first time the triennial event has been held in China, the world’s fastest growing LNG market.

Rodney Cox, Events Director of the International Gas Union (IGU), which owns the event along with the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) and the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), said: “Many of the applications that now make up the LNG industry simply did not exist a few decades ago, from small and mid-scale LNG through to LNG as fuel in both marine and land transport, and excitingly, much of this expansion is taking place here in China. Shanghai, with both its historical and innovative use of LNG, is the ideal city to host the event and we thank the city for its support.”

In opening remarks, Mr Wang Zhehong, Executive Chairman of the National Organising Committee and Deputy General Manager of Shenergy (Group) Co., Ltd was confident about the level of support for the event within China: “China’s three major oil companies will be on stage together for the first time in the LNG X event’s 50-year history. Shanghai Petroleum and Natural Gas Exchange Center, Hong Kong-China Gas, Beijing Gas and other well-known enterprises in the industry, as well as a wealth of professional manufacturers, will also participate in the 40,000sqm exhibition.”

Exhibitors said they are delighted the event is coming to China, the world’s fastest growing LNG market. Cheryl Sawyer, Marketing and Sponsorship Manager at Chevron Midstream, Strategy & Policy, said: “LNG markets are growing and will require additional reliable, affordable supply to meet long-term demand. Chevron is well-positioned to be a major LNG supplier today and in the future.”

Attendees learnt more about the event, which is the only LNG event owned by the industry and run for the industry, toured the venue with the event organisers – CWC Group from London, ETF from Australia and ITPC from Shanghai – and enjoyed a press reception with Chinese media outlets, including LNG168, GasTank, China Energy Forum, Xinhua (Shanghai branch) and China News Service.

The full Conference Programme is now available on LNG2019’s website, featuring almost 40 Plenary Speakers, including the CEOs of the world’s major LNG players, including Darren W. Woods (Exxon Mobil Corporation), Mike K. Wirth (Chevron Corporation), Ben van Beurden (Royal Dutch Shell), Alexey Miller (Gazprom) and Wan Zulkiflee (PETRONAS), plus over 150 speakers in the paper and forum sessions. In addition to the conference, the 40,000m2 exhibition will host more than 250 international exhibitors from 80 countries covering the entire spectrum of the LNG industry, including specialist pavilions such as the Marine Technology Pavilion.
