Oil & Gas Asia (OGA) together with UK-based Energy Industries Council (EIC) to hold their inaugural EIC Asia Pacific Energy Conversations. This two-day conference, held at OGA, brought together 30 local and international speakers to discuss the challenges and opportunities surrounding the theme of “Making the Energy Transition More Realistic for Asia Pacific.” The event comprised seven sessions dedicated to exploring various aspects of the energy transition. By hosting this conference, OGA further solidified its position as a crucial industry partner and hub for knowledge exchange and dialogue on energy transition in the Asia Pacific region.

Mr. Azman Nasir, Director Asia Pacific, Energy Industries Council (EIC), “In our EIC Survive and Thrive Report, we found that supply chain companies have shifted focus back to oil and gas, predominantly due to challenges in availability of consistent work and profitability in renewable energy projects. The same report also revealed that, based on Financial Investment Decision data, oil and gas projects are more likely to proceed with full funding, compared to renewable and transition technologies such as wind and hydrogen projects. These findings raise prospects of rapidly widening disparities between green ambitions and reality of what businesses see in their order books. Ultimately, raising concerns that net zero 2050 commitments are likely to be delayed.”

The conference explored the transition towards sustainable energy, emphasizing the use of clean energy sources, and discussed strategies for reducing carbon emissions in energy systems. The

conference provided a platform for knowledge exchange, networking and the showcase of innovative technologies and initiatives that will shape the future of the energy sector.
